HMD™ Challenge Protocol

There are cases when it is impractical to use a synthetic oral or IV chelator such as DMSA, DMPS, EDTA etc., so it is possible to use HMD™ during pre-post challenge testing.

A simple, step-by-step HMD™ challenge protocol follows:

1. It is important to tell the patient to stop taking all other supplements and natural or synthetic chelators for 1-2 days before taking the HMD™ for the challenge test. These other chelators are likely to interfere with the HMD™ challenge test.

2. In addition, 2-3 days before the challenge test it would be wise to avoid eating foods and beverages that may be high in heavy metals such as: Fish and crustaceans.

3. Do not have any dental work done at least one week before the HMD™ challenge test.

4. Have patient collect a "Pre" challenge urine sample - the first morning urine should be discarded and urine over the next 6 hours should be collected in a large 2 litre collection container. At the end of the 6 hour collection, shake well for a minute and place a sample of this urine into a small 60ml sample tube. If you cannot get this tube to the lab immediately then it should be frozen until you can.

5. The following morning, have the patient take a loading dose of HMD™, as follows:

ADULTS - take THREE tablespoons of HMD™ with a little water or juice.

CHILDREN
Under 21 lbs (9 kg) take 1/2 teaspoon HMD™  with a little juice

Between 22 lbs and 42 lbs (9.5 - 19 kg) - take 1 teaspoon HMD™  with a little juice

Between 43 lbs and 56 lbs (19.5 - 25 kg) - take 2 teaspoons HMD™  with a little juice

Between 57 lbs and 80 lbs (25.5 - 36 kg) - take 3 teaspoons HMD™  with a little juice

Between 81 lbs and 112 lbs take 2 tablespoons HMD™  with a little juice

Between 113 lbs and 154 lbs (50 - 70kg) - take 3 tablespoons HMD™  with a little juice

Then collect the urine for a full 24 hours - discard the first morning urine and begin collecting all urine for the next 24 hours in the large 2 litre container. Make certain that you are drinking plenty of mineral water. The 24 hours will be completed the following morning when you have collected the first morning urination (this is on the 2nd day). Shake the container well and take a sample in the 60ml sample container. Send to the lab immediately or else freeze until you can.

FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE DIFFICULTY COMPLETING THE 24-HOUR COLLECTION - A SHORTER PROTOCOL
Research has been conducted by scientists that has shown that the following shorter protocol works and has the same results as a 24-hour challenge test.

Collect urine for 3 hours from the morning, but not the first urination - this should be discarded in the toilet. Collect the remainder for the following 3 hours in a container. Drink at least 5-6 glasses of mineral water during this time. After the 3 hours, shake the container with the urine for a minute of so and fill the 60ml sample container and freeze.

During the same day, before going to sleep take the correct dosage of HMD™  - adults will take THREE tablespoons with a little water or juice. If you should wake during the night, collect this urine in the container - however many times you should collect every time. In the morning, make certain that you urinate in the container, shake it well for a minute and then place in the 60ml sample container. Freeze this until it is ready to be sent to the laboratory for testing.

To enhance the uptake of HMD™, it is easy to follow the Omura "uptake enhancement" protocol - simply rapidly rub the palms together for 3-5 minutes following each dose. The purpose of this is to open the regulation of the autonomic nervous system and enhance delivery of HMD™ to the tissues. Parents can easily rub their children's palms if they are very young. Rubbing the thumb which corresponds to the head, particularly the back of the nail which corresponds to the brain can also enhance uptake.

Depending on the patient's circumstances, tolerance doses may be adjusted by a qualified health practitioner.

Once the results have been returned, the practitioner would be looking for a percentage increase of metals in the post-challenge sample compared to the pre- or baseline sample. An increase suggests that metals are being stored in the body and it is important to eliminate these over time - taking 40 drops x 3 daily of the HMD will gently chelate these metals.
